Coraline, also known as Coraline: The Game and Coraline: An Adventure Too Weird for Words, is an adventure game based on the film of the same name. It was released on January 27, 2009, in close proximity to the film's theatrical release. It was released on the PlayStation 2, Wii and Nintendo DS. The game was planned to be on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable but these versions are cancelled.
Plot[]
Eleven-year-old Coraline Jones moves into the Pink Palace Apartments in Ashland, Oregon with her busy parents, Mel and Charlie Jones, who stay in offices all day. When Coraline does all her tasks her parents asked her to do, she goes to meet her neighbors, Mr. Bobinsky, and Miss Spink & Miss Forcible. After the ladies tell her about an old well not far from the house, Coraline decides to find it by using a dowsing rod. While searching, she meets an odd boy named Wybie Lovat and his cat, and it would appear that Wybie has a crush on her. Although Coraline found Wybie annoying, he showed her where the well was. After returning home (shown to be the next day), we see her busy parents Mel and Charlie. The next night Coraline goes to sleep in her new bedroom. She then wakes up hearing a strange noise and sees a mouse in her bedroom. Thinking its one of the crazy old mans (or Mr.Bobinskys), she chases it to the parlor of her home and finds a small door. She enters through the door into another world, a world where everyone has buttons for eyes and Wybie's cat talks. Coraline soon discovers that the Other Mother wants to sew buttons into her eyes and keep her forever and ever. What will Coraline do to get her parents (and the souls of three children) back safe and sound?

The game's score was composed and produced by Mark Watters. The score was recorded and mixed by Tim Bryson at Robert Irving Studios (based in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles) and Watter Music (based in Chatsworth, Los Angeles). The only three actors to reprise their roles from the film are Dakota Fanning as Coraline, Keith David as the Cat and Robert Bailey, Jr. as Wyborn "Wybie" Lovat. The remaining roles are occupied by voice actors Kath Soucie, Amanda Troop, J. B. Blanc, Susanne Blakeslee and Dave Foquette.
Reception[]
Unlike the critically acclaimed film, the game has received mostly negative reviews. IGN gave the game a 2.5 out of 10 for the Wii and PS2 versions. Common Sense Media gave the game 2/5 stars based on 9 reviews.
Game Trailers, however, gave the game a 7.9 out of 10.
